I was in the kitchen making supper yesterday, when I heard a great grunt of frustration from outside!
It was Eric, getting nowhere with the installation of a drum brake on our rear wheel. With the load of 2 people and all our gear, the regular rim brakes would overheat on long descents, so the drum brake is supposed to help them out.
We're only getting to this now because we've been waiting 2 weeks for a new rear axle, which broke 5 minutes from home when Eric was out riding with a friend (NB - I had nothing to do with it! ;-) That, after we'd just finished fixing some bent spokes and loose pedals. I have to say though, caring for this beauty of a bike is a labour of love.
Needless to say, we haven't been able to do as many training rides as we'd hoped! Hopefully we'll break everything that's about to break, and fix it, before May 16th, the big departure day. It's all part of the adventure! Heads up to all the bike shops along our route - here we come! ;-)
